When It's Time To Have Your Auto Glass Repaired Or Replaced

Automotive Blog

When you get a chip or a crack in your windshield, it's important to have your windshield checked by a collision repair shop to see if it needs to be repaired or replaced. Small chips and cracks are a very common occurrence, as small rocks or flying debris hit windshields on a frequent basis. While a small crack may be able to be ignored, it can quickly turn into a larger crack that spreads across your windshield. If you have a small nick that doesn't block your vision, you may not need a repair. If there's more than one chip or crack, you'll probably need a full windshield replacement.

When a Crack Spiders Across Your Windshield

A small crack might stay the same for awhile, but once you start driving your vehicle around the crack could spread. If the crack starts branching out in a variety of directions, you'll need to get the windshield replaced. This is why it's important to have a small crack repaired right away. When you ignore the problem, it can get much bigger and more expensive to fix quickly.

When Two Chips are Close Together

If you have a small chip in your windshield glass that doesn't block your vision, you don't have to really worry about it. Small chips are generally harmless, unless there are two chips within several inches of each other. Once there are two chips close together, you'll have to have your windshield repaired. The two chips in close proximity make your windshield unstable and more likely to break if something hits your windshield.

If Your Vision is Obstructed

If any crack, or chip is in your line of vision, get it fixed right away. It is not worth getting into an accident because you didn't want to spend the time or money on a quick windshield repair. In addition, it is not legal to drive around in a vehicle when your vision is obstructed.

When a Crack is Near the Edge of the Glass

When you discover a crack or chip that is close to the edge of the windshield glass, this may make your windshield unsafe. Anything close to the edge tends to weaken your windshield, making it more susceptible to shattering after the slightest jarring.

Whether you have a small crack, or one that is growing across your windshield, it's time to have your windshield fixed by a windshield repair specialist, like Accurate Auto Body, so that your car is safe to drive.

Why I Love Working on Cars

My dad was a mechanic, but I never had any interest in cars when I was young. My dream was to become an accountant, and that is what I do for a living today. When I began my career, the stress of my job began to take a toll on me. One day, I visited my dad, and like usual, I talked to him while he was fixing up a car in our garage. He told me to switch places with him and began telling me what to do with them to help him repair the car. After just a half-hour or so, I felt more relaxed than I had in months. The rest is history, as they say, and I am now passionate about automobiles and auto repair. I also find blogging very relaxing, so I decided to combine my favorite hobbies and start an auto blog!
