3 Tips To Care For Your Horse For The Long Term

Automotive Blog

Owning a horse can be rewarding, whether you keep them as pets or competitive ventures. By owning a horse, you are also accepting some responsibilities that come with caring for them. To make sure you are doing your best to care for your horse, read on and factor in these points, so that your horse is healthy, strong, and as productive as possible for as long as it lives.

Tip #1: Give Your Horse A Quality Place To Stay, Permanently And Temporarily

The first step toward caring for your horse is making sure that they are comfortable and well cared for in their home. This means investing in a barn or stable that has plenty of square footage for them to move around — particularly as they grow and become more active. Partition off areas for a rest room and recreation or sleeping area, so that the horse is not too enclosed, which can create stress. Make sure that you also keep your horse comfortable when transporting them for medical visits, shows, and any other reason. You should invest in a high quality horse trailer to transport them around. A solidly built horse trailer can cost in the range of $5000 and $17,000 for a straight load trailer and up to $100,000 or more for a sophisticated trailer with complete living arrangements.

#2: Keep Your Horse Well Fed And Bathed

Next, you will need to make sure that your horse is clean and well fed. Set up a bathing area for the horse and regularly keep them clean to avoid fleas, ticks, and other pests that might attempt to stick to them. You can invest in a quality soap or cleaning solution for your horse's body, tail, and mane. You also need to be sure that your horse is always given plenty of time to graze and drink water. It can cost between $100 and upwards $250 per month to feed a fully grown horse.

#3: Invest In The Best Medical Care For Your Horse

If you want your horse to remain strong and healthy, you should find a vet that specializes in horses. You might want to purchase animal health insurance in order to offset some of the medical costs that your horse might incur. Regular visits to the vet will keep your horse at its best and disease free. You can learn how to groom and care for your horse on your own as well. For instance, trimming your horse's hooves every couple of months will go a long way.

Use these three tips so that your horse is well cared for.

Why I Love Working on Cars

My dad was a mechanic, but I never had any interest in cars when I was young. My dream was to become an accountant, and that is what I do for a living today. When I began my career, the stress of my job began to take a toll on me. One day, I visited my dad, and like usual, I talked to him while he was fixing up a car in our garage. He told me to switch places with him and began telling me what to do with them to help him repair the car. After just a half-hour or so, I felt more relaxed than I had in months. The rest is history, as they say, and I am now passionate about automobiles and auto repair. I also find blogging very relaxing, so I decided to combine my favorite hobbies and start an auto blog!
